A new survey reveals that nearly half of UK’s motorists believe the driving test is not fit for purpose – and want the next Government to tackle the issue head-on once installed in Number 10.
According to a survey by the Institute of Advanced Motorists, 41% of motorists believe that the current driving test is outdated and does not reflect the modern driving landscape. But the driving test doesn’t top the list of five priorities that drivers want the next Government to deal with.
That honour is bestowed upon the plague of potholes that litter our roads up and down the country; 70% of motorists surveyed stated that a drive to reduce of the number of potholes should be the number one priority for the new Government. And the latest estimated cost to achieve this goal nationwide? £12.16 billion.
In second place, 64% of motorists said that the wider of issue of general road maintenance required more attention, while 52% of motorists believed that the current coalition has not made road safety a key issue and that road deaths need to be reduced further.
Issues with the driving test came in at fourth, while 39% of drivers want to see an increase in sentences for those found guilty of committing serious motoring offences.
