It was only two weeks ago that we highlighted the young driver with 96 points on his licence – as well as the one with 144 points – wondering if they could be awarded the title of Britain’s worst drivers.

Incredibly though, both are actually small fry compared to 25-year-old learner Bilal Abdullah who owns two scooters that were clocked breaking the speed limit nearly 70 times in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex.

What speed limit?

Snapped by speed cameras between 20 March and 14 July last year, the learner was recorded travelling in 30mph zones between the speeds of 36mph and 51 mph on 68 separate occasions. This led to the delivery driver being charged with 136 traffic offences. However, there were further twists.

First, both scooters were registered to an Ibis hotel room in Romford, East London. When the police sent disclosure requests to the address after each offence was committed – demanding that Abdullah reveal who was riding the vehicles at the time – he never bothered to respond.

Failure to notify

Because of this failure to respond, the police were forced to drop the actual speeding offences as they would be unable to prove who was driving at the time.

Alas, for Abdullah, he was instead given six penalty points for each and every non-disclosure offence.

This amounted to the astonishing 408 points. He was also banned from driving for two years plus fined £1,000, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £664, and cover £180 in costs.

No show

The final twist? Abdullah didn’t even bother showing up at Bright Magistrates court in December when the points were dished out.

This means he may still not ‘know’ that he’s been banned for two years. However, with 408 points on his licence, his driving career is effectively – and thankfully – over before it even started.
