It took her 24 attempts but in 2013, a young woman finally managed to pass her driving test.

According to data obtained by the Press Association from the Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency, the unnamed 24-year-old from Chippenham was one of ten learners who by the end of 2013 had managed to rack up over 20 fails each – in all, that ’s 200 fails between them – before going on to pass.

Any of us hoping to identify key trends for failing based on age, gender or geography should look elsewhere – four were male and six female while ages ranged from 24 up to 47, and the persistent learners were from across the length and breadth of Britain.

And for any veteran drivers among us shaking our heads in disbelief at such failure rates, a recent study saw 50 experienced drivers take mock tests to see how they would measure up against the modern driving test.

The result? 76% of them failed.
